Subject:Travelopium
Time:02:42 pm
Travelopium is what I am working on at present.

After being stuck in a rut for a year it's good to breathe fresh air. For the past one year there have been numerous instances when I just wanted to get out of my daily job routine and go to someplace far away from the maddening rush.

I always thought that doing this was beyond my budget. Plus, I didn't want to go to the run-of-the mill getaways where there would be a thousand other people vying for there piece of serenity.

The objective of Travelopium is very simple: Help people get out of their daily rigmarole. If I could just get people relieve their frustrations and have a weekend, week or month of serenity I have done my job.

I am not thinking of making money to start with. Just thinking of making something useful.

Travelopium is just one of the few ventures that I am thinking of at present. Will be building them under the banner codeRhymes Ventures

Subject:Startup conundrum
Time:11:51 am
A hypothetical situation:

A guy starts a new venture. He persists with it for a couple of years. Gives it all that he has got. During this he faces a number of issues and does his best to solve it.

After two years of doing this the venture faces a series of roadblocks and it just doesn't work anymore. The company now thinks that this guy is not what suits it's growth path. Probably doesn't throw it at the guy's face but avoids the guy in decision making and keeps him away. The guy who has given a couple of years of his life and is still trying to make this venture successful is suddenly now an outcast.

Question 1: Should the guy continue working on this startup or move out and start something new?
Tip: The guy has already done everything he could possibly think of to make this partnership work.

Question 2: Does this conundrum also apply to people and their relationships apart from Startup ventures? :-)

Cheers!

Note: Before you guys start thinking way too much. The guy being mentioned above is not me :-P

Subject:aye! to the whiteboard!
Time:12:46 pm
Got my ancient whiteboard down from my old apartment. Thanks to [info]mojosaurus for preserving it and getting it down.

A lot of my radical(?), earth-shattering(?) ideas had once blossomed(?) on this whiteboard.

Need to get started on use cases, personas and the product plan. I am so loving this phase of my life :-)

I have been a hardcore PHP guy for quite some time. However, when I started out with building my own apps time to market seemed like a guillotine lurking over my head.

Checking out RubyOnRails and it looks quite neat. The layers of abstraction that it adds will make life simpler/faster however I don't know how much impact it will have on performance.

For now it does look like it's going to reduce my time to market drastically. That is some good news and good news has been hard to come by for some time...

Time:04:52 pm
BigAdda.com just released it's 2.0 version. After months of engineering and corpolitical kung fu the "robust, scalable, extensible" platform is out.

I have taken a month long paid leave. Don't have any plan to go back as of yet.

It seems as if the only people left in Mumbai are with low IQ.

The people are frivolous and absolutely non-professional. Beam me up Scotty/God!

I keep making silly jokes and I keep forgetting them. So now I will just post them to my journal as and when I crack them. Now my friends don't have to miss out on any of my jokes ;-P

Cheers!

Subject:Stark contrast and my apathy
Time:08:18 pm
I just went downstairs to pickup a pack of marlboro lights. As I was paying for it there was a regular middle class guy beside me who had picked up a pack of bread.

Apparently the cost of the loaf had increased today by a rupee. The guy put back the loaf and picked up another cheaper bread.

This thing didn't hit me till I came back and lit up my smoke. Here I was blowing away money while some person had to manage his budget by buying a cheaper loaf of bread.

I sure am really lucky that I am not in his shoes. I think I should get back to work so that I am never in that position.

A reality check like this is good. Keeps me on my toes.

bigAdda.com had it's alpha release a few days back. We will be opening up the invites today. Yay!

The atmosphere here is electric.

This is just an alpha release and there is a lot of stuff to do before it starts looking good. Kudos to the team to get the alpha release up and running in 40 days flat. That's no mean feat :-D

Cheers! Leave your email here to get an invite ;-)

Subject:QnA
Time:12:15 am
I know it's a bit too late for this ...

Question: How am I ever supposed to find a date for Valentine's day?

Answer: Visit any *classy* pastry shop on Valentine's day. This is one place you are bound to find hot single chics. Appear ignorant about pastries and strike up a conversation to find which pastry you should have.

Subject:WTF is wrong?
Time:02:18 pm
WTF is wrong with me? I am tending towards moving into my own sweet cocoon.

 - I want the least number of people around me.
 - I am done with playing host for people who are not worth it.
 - I have a friend vegetating at my place who I cant stand anymore.
 - I am expected to shell out my time for people who obviously have no time for me.

I hate crowds. I cant bear with crowds anymore. Its time to start repelling everyone.

Subject:Solution
Time:01:33 pm
The solution seems to be pretty simple.

1. Whenever I notice myself doing something which is not productive I will remind myself to get back to work

2. Work through the coming weekend so that I am on par on Monday.

3. Continue to follow step 1.

Subject:Wasting time?
Time:10:18 am
I think I need to go down to a book store and buy a genre of books I have always laughed upon.

I have realised that I have been wasting an awfully large amount of my time. I should pickup some self-help books about how not to waste time and how to complete tasks in time.
